At juvenile court, Miles and his parent are leaving and Miles has been given community service. His father informs him that he had to use up a considerable amount of favors and that his community service was 16 hours a week including Saturdays. He has not television, phone or computer for the rest of the year. At Lost Coast Bay, Ca Daughtery gives notes on their progress on a recorder, when she comes across Rich’s drawing of sink holes. They decide makes design changes to the submersible. They test it with 72 hours left before the species will congregate off the coast of Oregon. Daughtery films them testing the submersible when Rich opens the door and the pressure knocks out him out.

Miles works at pick up trash on the side of the road. Savannah and her friends come and rag on him. She feels sorry for Miles. Lee comes home and he relaxes with music. His wife she a photo of the franken flower and he tells her that it is the future. Savannah comes home to find her parents discussing sending Miles to a behavioral reeducation camp. Rich paints seven on the submersible and explains that it was his brother, George's number when he played semi-pro baseball and his nickname: Little Heat”. They discuss going down and Jackson has Daughtery christen the boat. She calls it “Little Heat”. Savannah pleads Miles case, and she confesses about having a party and knowing about Nimrod when they were gone. She explains that Miles was different with Nimrod, he care about something. Daughtery calls Shawn tells him that they are going out and she talks to Jesse. There is a knock at the door and Jesse goes to answer it and its Lee at the door.

Shawn looks over Lee’s credentials and Lee explains why he is there. Le threatens Shawn with perjury charge and Shawn does not give him any information. Miles has dreams of Nimrod. Out to sea Rich, Daughtery, and Jackson encounter the species-lightening storm. Jackson shows the additional modification he added last night. Rich leads them in a prayer. Rich and Daughtery climb in to the submersible and Jackson lowers them down. ON the road, Miles takes a break looking out at the ocean. Savannah arrives with the news that his dad got him transferred to a different community service project.

At Fort Fisher Aquarium, Wilmington, NC Miles gets his job description from a technician. The tech lets Mile feed the stingray. At 1700 feet, the submersible gets a leak in the window. Jackson tells them that he should bring them back upon and they hear the species call. The tell Jackson to continue lowering them.

Miles cleans the observation window and takes a break to admire the life in the tank. The tech shows Miles the infertile eggs. Rich and Laura see the species mating and record it. Miles’s dad picks Miles up and realizes that Savannah was right. On the surface Jackson exclaims’ Oh my God!” as Rich recognizes the hole below them. Rich and Laura start to rapidly descend and land on the edge of the crater on the bottom of the ocean floor. They realize that he cable snapped and it pulls them into the hole. Rich reassures a distraught Daughtery that this was meant to happen.
